giropay is a way for Germans to pay for things online. It was first used in 2006. It lets customers use their online banking to make purchases online, with the money coming out of their bank account. Depending on their bank, giropay customers either use a PIN or a second form of authentication to confirm payments. In Germany, 10% of online purchases are made with giropay.
Customers using giropay are sent to their website to verify a payment, and they are told right away if the payment was successful or not.
